It is also Spain’s technical university with highest scientific production, highest citable output, highest research competitiveness and largest research income (from the European Union VI Framework Program (2002-2006) and from the Spanish National Science Foundation). UPC has also significant cooperation activity (84 cooperation and development projects). It has also the highest citable output in the fields of Computer Science and IT; Mechanical; Naval and Aeronautical Engineering; Civil Engineering and Architecture; Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Automatic Control; and Electronic and Communications Technologies.

UPC, trough the Technical Research Centre for Dependency Care and Autonomous Living (CETpD), will contribute with its expertise and experience in assistive technologies dedicated to the improvement of autonomy and independence of individuals through the development and implementation of innovative technological solutions that take into account both the necessities of the final users and the ones of their caregivers, with the aim of covering the demand for research and development in the field of Gerontechnology, Ambient Intelligence, Assistive Robotics and User Experience Technologies. CETpD has a team of highly qualified researchers with proven professional experience, skilled technicians and research fellows. This team includes specialists in electronics, computational intelligence, telecommunications, psychology, gerontology, medicine and behaviour sciences, who are skilled at performing interdisciplinary work. CETpD carries out important applied research work and innovation focused on socially relevant developments, especially on technologies and systems designed to enhance independent living of elderly and disabled people.
